Vitamin D, also known as calciferol, is a fat-soluble vitamin responsible for increasing the absorption of nutrients. But our body is incapable of creating it, and hence must be consumed in the diet.

Vitamin D and Insulin sensitivity
Health specialists believe that calciferol is quite effective in controlling insulin secretion. It improves the body’s response to insulin and reduces insulin resistance.
According to the European Journal of Endocrinology, a study determined the effects of 6-month supplementation of vitamin D on insulin sensitivity and secretion. For individuals who had type 2 diabetes, supplementation for 6 months increased peripheral insulin sensitivity and β-cell production.
Another study by the National Library of Medicine shows that deficiency of the vitamin can cause diabetes. It also stated that the vitamin is proficient enough to modify the risk of cardiovascular, diabetes type 2, and hypertension.
Vitamin D is pretty efficient in treating diabetes and increasing insulin secretion. However, consulting a doctor before any diet changes are advised.
