The Practice of Yoga
Yoga is the practice of the spiritual, physical, and mental union of an individual. It is the art of bringing harmony to the mind and body and helping lead a healthy life. It originates from Ancient India. The word Yoga is derived from Sanskrit – signifying ‘to unite’ or ‘to join’. Yoga consists of a combination of meditative breathing and controlled poses. Additionally, it is claimed to target every muscle, nerve and every tendon in the body.
What Yoga does to your body
Yoga brings overall balance to your body. But it’s more than that. It has the ability to build muscle, promote fat loss and increase flexibility. Additionally, it even provides you with flexibility and balance.
- Cellular level – The body consists of a trillion cells. Exercises like yoga promote the blood flow in the body. Which in turn brings more oxygen and nutrients to the body. Proper blood flows also promote muscle strength. Likewise, without proper stretching, muscles can remain contracted causing tears or pains. Regular stretching leads to increased flexibility and mobility in the individual.
- Heart Health – Studies show that the continues flow of blood throughtout the body, and providing organs with the required minerals reduce risk of heart diseases.
- Lungs – The deep and focused breathing practice stresses lung tissues. Thus in turn improving lung capacity and helping the lungs work more efficiently.
- Brain – Studies show how meditative exercises increase alpha brain waves. These are the aves signifying rest and calmness. Additionally, research shows that yoga has also proven to be an anti-depressant and can reduce the symptoms of depression.
- Stress and Anxiety – With the proper meditative tools and practices before sleep can enable you to sleep and stay asleep for the required amount of time. Those with anxiety have opted to use yoga as a method to cope with anxiety and stressful situations.
Many studies prove the benefits of yoga to both psychology and physiological well-being of th individual. Those practicing yoga are said to have better health and coping mechanism than those who don’t. Therefore, it can be an excellent way to familiarize yourself with meditative practices. It can help promote health, maintain health or even assist those with serious health issues. Incorporating it a few times a week is enough to notice a significant difference.
