Cardio can either be your favorite or your kryptonite. We’ve all been at the state where we have tried to figure out an exercise routine that works for us. Differences between LISS and HIIT cardio :
HIIT or High-Intensity Interval Training has become one of the most effective ways to get sweaty. All you need is 15-20 minutes to burn a significant amount of calories. HIIT is the quickest most efficient way to get done with cardio. LISS, or Low-Intensity Steady-State, is longer in duration, about 45-60 minutes, which is less intense. It can be going on a walk, swimming, cycling, etc., carried out over a period of time. This is also best when you don’t feel like giving it your during that particular workout.
HIIT uses short bursts of intense effort after which there are breaks or low-level effort. While LISS is applying steady effort throughout the whole workout program. Therefore, research shows that HIIT uses glycogen or carbs as its main source of fuel while LISS pushes the body to use fat as the main source of fuel. The case is that both routines burn more or less the same amount of calories.
In conclusion, determining what type of exercise suits you best ultimately comes down to your body, goals, and your lifestyle. For example, you experience knee pain – LISS cardio is much suited for you as it is a low level of intensity. If you don’t want to put your body through high levels of stress this is perfect for you. While on the other hand, you are the kind of person that is short on time, needs a quick workout done – HIIT suits you best. A short circuit can prove to be insanely time effective and a calorie killer. It is also relatively harder to finish because of the amount of stress put on the body in such a short period of time.
